Belazu’s March Restaurant of the Month competition brings you the newly opened Turkish inspired restaurant, Yeni; sister restaurant of Yeni Lokanta, Istanbul. With head chef Civan Er and restauranteur Cem Bilge at the helm, Yeni opened on Beak St in Soho at the beginning of February 2019. Yeni Lokanta has been well renowned in Istanbul for over 6 years serving modern Turkish cuisine, but this year Londoners are now graced with the critically acclaimed Middle Eastern restaurant’s presence.
Yeni is sophisticated yet exudes a cool and modern atmosphere which is replicated on the Istanbul inspired menu. Sourcing local, seasonal produce the menu is inventive and intriguing with Civan’s classic oven-roasted beef ribs with isot pepper alongside octopus, bulgur wheat and labne. Unlike many other restaurants of its kind, there is a wide variety of vegetarian offerings including pan-fried 12-month old feta with samphire and spiced honey and aubergine stuffed dumplings with pomegranate molasses– an inevitable crowd pleaser. Save room for dessert as the options are tempting; salted caramel panna cotta with pumpkin and kadajifi-covered custard fritters.
With neighbours such as Nopi, Yeni is well situated within the bustling heart of Soho. Decked out with floral tiles, laterns and ornate glass chandeliers hanging from the white brick ceiling the interior of Yeni is a one stop trip to Istanbul. With floor to ceiling windows looking out onto busy Beak Street, it is the perfect spot for a casual afternoon lunch with friends to a more romantic dinner for two.
