In 2018 the impact of plastic on the environment became a priority in many companies’ sustainability program. Consumers are increasingly exercising their purchasing power and call on retailers and manufacturers to reduce excessive plastic packaging.
Our answer was to set up a reduce, re-use and recycle plastic project to enable us to achieve our target where 100% of finished product packaging and transit packaging is widely recyclable or compostable by 2025.
To achieve this, we have set up dedicated teams with members from across the business. Each team is investigating a different work stream, working together towards the following objectives:
Currently the teams have started with a plastic audit, because you cannot manage what you haven’t measured. This will allow us to see the changes that we can make that will have the biggest impact, will make all Belazu employees aware of the plastic they use, and will help us to question if plastic is the correct material to use.
If you want to know more about the recyclability of our packaging, check the bottom of your plastic bucket to identify the type of plastic. A lot of our plastic packaging is recyclable however unfortunately this doesn’t mean it always gets recycled. Do check your local councils recycling programme to know what type of plastic you can put into your recycling bin.
We are conscious that there is no bad material, only inappropriate application. This project was set in place to make sure that we are doing the right thing for people, product and planet.
